Core Values

Why Core Values?

If the Purpose Statement explains the reason why our church exists, then the Core Values express what it is we believe and help to define where we are going and what our goals are. 

There has been much negative press surrounding the idea of Core Values both inside and outside of the church. The claims usually have to do with being uncomfortable borrowing such ideas from the business world, or from experiences where Core Values were developed and rarely if ever adhered to.

To the first, the business world does not have exclusive rights to organizing and quantifying values. True it may have been and still is a pervasive trend in the business world, but that is not the primary origin of identifying and categorizing values. There has been many a person who loves God throughout history who has identified and categorized biblical themes and values: we call it Systematic Theology.

The Core Values of our church are meant to represent a Systematic Theology of what it means to be the Church and what values are expressed within. The Purpose Statement forms the general outline from the Greatest Commandment in Matthew 22:34-40 (To love the Lord and to love your neighbour as yourself) whereas the Core Values expand upon those concepts to define the biblical values at work in expressing love for God and love for our neighbour.

To the second, it is true that very often Core Values are developed and then collect dust in many organizations. However, the lack of commitment of some groups should not dissuade the good exercise of prayerfully defining and promoting biblical values for the local church. We do not cease to listen to good music, admire a well done piece of art, or craftsmanship on the basis of seeing how others have done it poorly.

Instead, we have endeavored to engage worshipfully in how we may biblically define the values of the church and we pray that you will find these values at work.

 

 

  • Commitment to the Word1 – we will actively pursue the personal transformational work of the Holy Spirit through the truth of His inerrant Word.
  • Christ-Centered Worship2 – we will seek to actively and accurately engage worship in every area of life in light of Jesus’ sacrifice.
  • Call to Prayer3 – we will remember that the church belongs to God and seek to glorify Him in all asking, praising, thanking, lamenting, and crying out to Him.
  • Caring Fellowship & Families4 – we will acknowledge the significance of relationships in a Gospel-centered life and seek ways to facilitate meaningful connections in the church and in the home.
  • Compassionate Service5 – we will serve one another and our community in Christ-like compassion and humility.
  • Courageous Mission6 - we will serve not only the local body of believers, but also the global mission of the Church through prayer, giving and sending.
